I don"t have my mill"s manual in front of me, but I can plainly tell you...1,000 rpm is not even close. The magic number I seem to recall is around 1,800-2,000 rpm at the mill shaft. My mill(s) are Ward"s Grainbusters....but I don"t think it matters who made them...the mill shaft"s speed would be much the same on any of them.

Just taking a wild guess that the mill pulley was 4" in dia and driven at 3000fps. That would calculate an shaft speed of 3140rpm. It would be safe to direct drive this unit with a 10 or 15/16HP 3450rpm electric motor. Handier and cheaper to run per hour than a tractor. If my math is correct.
